In this workshop, we’ll explore how poetic forms can ignite imagination and deepen the possibilities of language. From the tightly woven music of the sonnet to the lyrical refrains of the ghazal, the inventive constraints of the Golden Shovel, and the subtle rhythms of syllabic verse, we’ll experiment with forms that balance freedom and structure.
Through brief readings and generative writing exercises, participants will discover how form shapes thought, intensifies emotion, and creates moments of surprise on the page. Rather than limiting creativity, poetic structures give us something to push against—often leading to language that is more precise, musical, and alive.
Whether you’re new to formal poetry or looking to re-energize your writing practice, this workshop offers a welcoming space to experiment, play, and follow where the poem leads.
